Introducing the Philippines: The Pearl of the Orient Seas

Famous for its title as “the Pearl of the Orient Seas”, the Republic of the Philippines never stops to amaze its visitors with its 7,107 charming islands. It even takes two to three decades for a dedicated traveler to experience the relaxing atmosphere of every island.

Philippines is one of the Southeast Asian nations that is situated to the south of Taiwan, east of Vietnam, and north of Indonesia. Being located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, the archipelago is usually threatened by occasional earthquakes and volcanic activities. However, this has positively contributed to the nation’s richness of natural resources. In fact, Philippines is considered as among the 17 megadiverse countries in the world due to its flora and fauna’s high degree of biodiversity.

With its pristine beaches, crystalline waters, and baroque churches, it cannot be denied that Philippines is one of Asia’s best travel destination. Among the best places to visit include the lovely beaches of Boracay and El Nido, the spectacular Banaue Rice Terraces, the Basilica of San Sebastian in Quiapo, and the Chocolate Hills of Bohol. For diving enthusiasts, the wonderful interplay of marine life in Tubbataha Reefs National Park and the friendly sea giants (the whale sharks) of Donsol, Sorsogon are all for your eyes to feast on.

About Our Islands

We always want to emphasize that Philippines is an archipelago of 7,107 islands – it’s our way of saying that discoveries are endless here. The islands are then grouped into three namely Luzon (northern Philippines), Visayas (central Philippines) and Mindanao (southern Philippines). These three island groups are divided further into 17 regions.

Philippines is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, making the islands volcanic in origin. Majority of the islands are mountainous, with Mt. Apo in Davao being the highest. Many of the Philippine volcanoes are active including the Mount Pinatubo, Mount Mayon, and Taal Volcano in Luzon.

We also take pride of our coastline, considered as the 5th longest in the world, and twice as long as that of the United States. Our warm, crystal blue waters and white sand beaches reaffirm our claim as one of Asia’s top beach destinations.
