Bohol’s new crown jewel, The  Peacock Garden Luxury Resort and Spa was recently inaugurated. Tourism Sec. Ace Durano flew in from Cebu to formally open the province’s newest upscale tourism landmark. He cut the ceremonial ribbon along with DOT regional director for Central Visayas Dawnie Roa and top local government officials led by Gov. Enrico Aumentado, Rep. Edgar Chatto and The Peacock Garden’s visionary owners, Hans and Lani Schoof. Monsignor Leonardo Medroso, Bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, officiated at the blessing rites.

Nestled on a hilly promontory that gives a breathtaking view of the Bohol Sea and it fabled beaches, the Peacock Garden Luxury Resort and Spa is situated in Upper Laya, Baclayon, a tranquil and picturesque town only 15-minutes away from Tagbilaran City. The 40 tastefully furnished guests rooms done in the style of 18th century German architecture are housed in two detached villas. Each room is equipped with modern amenities like air-conditioning, TV and DVD player, mini-bar, direct-dial telephone and internet connection. A third villa houses the world-class spa. Fronting the villas is the huge infinity pool and an outdoor Jacuzzi.

Both serious admirers of National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal, the Schoofs have incorporated rare and vintage Rizal memorabilia in the interiors of the resort. The centerpiece is the original living room furniture used by the hero during his lengthy stay at Pastor Ullmer’s vicarage in Heidelberg.

The Peacock Garden Luxury Resort and Spa has three dining outlets. Old Heidelberg is the main restaurant that serves the best of German and Continental cuisine amid the old world charm of 18th century Germany. The adjacent Hemingway Lounge with a well-stocked wine cellar and warm leather sofas is a haven for the discerning wine connoisseur. And for a more relaxed and casual ambience, there is the Peacock Room where hearty breakfast are served with freshly-baked breads and pastries.
